Get in friends. We’re going surfing! It’s finally time to pack up our bags and head to the beach. It’s easy to feel like you need to bring everything but the kitchen sink with you. You want to have everything you need without overpacking, especially if you’re planning on heading out for drinks and dinner after soaking up the sun. We’re sharing our 7 must-have items that everyone needs in their beach bag, from the obvious to the ‘oh no!’ items you’ll be glad you packed.

1. Beach hat
Sun protection should include a baseball cap or a beach hat. Sunscreen will only offer you so much protection, and a beach hat will help protect your face from the worst of the sun’s UV waves.
2. Polaroid camera
Capture your summer memories with a disposable or polaroid camera. You won’t have to worry about dropping your phone in the sea, and it’s the perfect way to make a unique keepsake of your trip.
The first thing you pack should always be your sunscreen. Bring at least a full bottle with a spare if you’re heading out with friends. You’ll need to reapply your sunscreen throughout the day, including when you come out of the water. Make sure your SPF gives you enough protection for your climate. Don’t forget your shoulders!
Bluetooth speakers are the perfect way to get the party starter if you’re hosting a BBQ at the beach. If you’re planning on working on your tan, bring along a book or load your iPad with some shows to binge-watch. You might not have WiFi or 4G at the beach, so it’s best to download everything beforehand.
5. Summer-ready makeup
Pack your makeup bag full of summer essentials. You’ll want to pack a tinted moisturizer and concealer to use instead of a full coverage foundation. Give your lips the TLC they need with an SPF lip balm and opt for multi-use products that can streamline your routine. You want to be able to leave the beach and hit up your dinner reservation within a few minutes.
It’s easy to become dehydrated at the beach. Bring a reusable water bottle as a backup, alongside any other drinks and snacks you plan to pack. If you’re heading by car or going with friends, invest in a cooler that you can pack full of water and other drinks to stay hydrated. Reusable water bottles are a great choice as you can refill them at most cafes near the beach when you’re heading home.
7. Portable charger
Don’t forget to bring a portable charger with you. While you’re posting on Instagram stories and streaming Netflix in the sun, you don’t want your phone’s battery to go flat. Unless you happen to find a café or beach hunt, you won’t have any luck finding a plug to charge your phone. Invest in a portable charger that can re-fuel your phone a few times throughout your beach trip.
